Today's Holy Week Music is by our very own Bekah & Mark Hagan Ahenda. Read a note from Bekah below which includes the scripture reading for today, and then scroll down to watch & listen.

We're nearing the end.

By tonight Jesus has eaten dinner with his closest friends. He has washed their feet one by one; one final table turned in the name of grace. And now, we come to the garden.

In his final moments before his betrayal, Jesus is alone. Isolated from his friends, and seemingly isolated from his Heavenly Father.

This is one of the most human moments of Christ we have recorded. This is the moment where he admits it out loud - "I don't want to do this. Please take it from me." (Luke 22:39-44) This is the moment we like to skip past in the Christ story. It's uncomfortable. It stings. It's all too relatable right now.

I know this because trying to find a song of lament for today among the church music we all know was pretty much impossible. We don't get to skip to the happy ending just yet - and most of our Easter songs do just that.

This song is called "Say Something" and was originally written by a band called A Great Big World. It's not a worship tune, it's more of a break up song. But I think it hits on the beautiful complicated agony of everything that Jesus was feeling before he steeled himself for what he knew would come next.

Maybe this is something we all need right now - yes we all long for the day when this is all over, and we can celebrate together once again. But what about right now? This is hard. We don't want to do it. Perhaps admitting it out loud isn't such a bad thing. Perhaps Jesus can meet us here, too.

May we rejoice in the everlasting relatability that is Jesus Christ during this Holy Week.
