The heavens tell of the glory of God.  The skies display his marvelous craftsmanship.  Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.  They speak without a sound or a word; their voice is silent in the skies; yet their message has gone out to all the earth, and their words to all the world. Psalm 19: 1-4

Sometimes I sit and gaze up through the leaves on the trees or I stand on the beach at water’s edge and marvel at the intricate details of God’s creation.  When I stand amongst the trees, I notice how different each tree is from another, and each leaf upon that tree, slightly different from the last.  It is overwhelming for me to think about the countless number of trees and leaves upon the earth.  To think that every snowflake that falls is uniquely different from any other.  To realise that every wave that washes over the shore follows a slightly different pattern, the everchanging tides leaving the shore different from one moment to the next.

The impossible variety and the sheer magnitude of these things confirms for me that the earth and everything in it is more than chance.  Only an infinite God could create something so complex and beautiful.  On an intellectual level, this is one of the ways that being in nature feeds my faith.

At a more emotional level, it is the indescribable beauty of nature that inspires me to dream, to write, to live my life with a sense of purpose and joy. Often, it is this impossible beauty of nature that brings me hope and a belief that God is a part of everything around me.  At the same time, I am aware that I must make a conscious choice to be grateful for the beauty that surrounds me and to focus on the many blessings in my life.  There is so much to be grateful for...

The Whispered Voice of Hope

By Krista Longeway

There is a voice that calls to me
From somewhere that I cannot see
So close that I can almost hear
Its whispered breath within my ear

I listen for that quiet voice
That tells me there is always choice
A choice to notice little things
With gratitude for what they bring

And so I watch the stars at night
And turn my face up to sunlight
I stop to notice each new thing
A single moment now can bring

The blush of colour on the rose
The sigh of leaves when the wind blows
The wave’s soft rhythm on the shore
The sound of raindrops when it pours

The whispered voice calls out to me
And so I listen carefully
For hope is such a fleeting thing
We know not what each day will bring

But even on a stormy night
I know the morning will bring light
I know that each and every day
Is new, mistakes are cleared away

And in each moment God is there
I feel His presence everywhere
I cling to what I know is true
That whispered voice brings hope anew
